Portraits
Oil portraits of well-known figures and expressive characters.
Portraits are the largest section of this gallery. The works here are made in two media: graphite pencil on paper and oil on canvas. In the pencil portraits the background is usually left bare or only lightly hatched, so that everything rests on the features of the face.
Among the recognisable sitters are the poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzade, Heydar Aliyev, Ramil Safarov and the singer Shakira. Alongside them are portraits of unnamed models — a young woman, a girl holding a scarf across her face.
Most of these were worked from photographs, which makes the section double as a set of examples: if you are considering a portrait from your own photo, this is what the result looks like.
