Composition
Thematic, multi-figure compositions and narrative works.
The composition section gathers the narrative, multi-figure works — pictures of a scene rather than of a single object.
There are scenes of everyday national life here: women baking flatbread at the hearth, a woman in a headdress holding a child with a domed city skyline behind her. In works like these the aim is not a single moment but a whole piece of ordinary life.
The section also holds symbolic and surrealist pictures: a horse galloping out of the sea foam beneath a woman's face formed from cloud; two figures in conversation before a twin-peaked mountain; two children watching a ladybird on their joined hands.
Works in this genre are made both in oil and in pencil. Compositions on a particular theme, or around a family's own history, can also be commissioned.
